For the lovers of literature, this lugubrious news may leave you dabbing your eyes. According a recent survey conducted by the Pew Research Center, over a quarter (28 percent) of Americans have yet to pick up a book this year – and yes, that includes e-books. But, interestingly enough, though digital sales have dipped significantly, print is still staying fairly strong! And props to the Millennials – 80% of young adults (18-29) have read a book this year compared to the roughly 70% of the more mature audience. The study also found that women lead the pack, with an average of 14 books a year in comparison to the nine books read by the average man. No worries though – if you haven’t cracked open a book yet, you still have a couple months to squeeze a few reads in!
